After reading and understanding the rules that the school considers essential for a proper civil society, parents, students and teachers, represented by the School Dean, subscribe this Educational Agreement  thus supporting the objectives and commitments in it. Copy of this agreement is an integral part of the School Regulations.

Vittoria International School requires academic rigour and active student involvement in all aspects of the curriculum. It places a strong emphasis on the ideals of international understanding and responsible citizenship.

The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.

  1. School is the place of promotion and education through study, knowledge acquisition and development of civic awareness.
  2. School is a community of dialogue, research and social experience, aware of the democratic values and devoted to personal growth in all its meanings. Each member works with equal dignity and diversity of roles  to ensure education towards citizenship, realization of the right to study and development of the potential of each member (Article 1 – Sections 1 and 2 of the DPR 249/98 – “Statute of female students and male students”).

In accordance with the DPR 249/98 as amended (art. 3 DPR 235/2007), given the purpose of Programs Offered: “Training people at a cognitive, cultural and educational level Vittoria International School proposes the following “Mutual Responsibility Educational Agreement” with the aim of clearly defining rights and responsibilities in the relationship between school, families and students.

Respecting this Agreement is an fundamental condition to build a relationship of mutual trust, to enhance the purposes of training and to guide students to academic success.

Teachers are committed to:

  • knowing  and respecting the School Regulations and observe its rules;
  • being on time for classes, be accurate in the delivery of schedules, records and obligations for the school;
  • monitoring  students in class and during the break and not leaving the class without informing the Dean or her assistants;
  • informing students of the educational and teaching objectives, timing and working arrangements;
  • explaining the criteria for evaluation of oral, written and laboratory testing;
  • clearly communicating the results of written, oral and laboratory tests to students and parents;
  • creating a positive school environment based on dialogue, cooperation and respect;
  • in the teaching/learning process, respecting methods, timing and abilities of each person considering his/her uniqueness and individuality;
  • promoting each student’s ability for initiative, decision making and accountability;
  • encouraging students to appreciate and value difference;
  • planning the work providing for highly personalized recovery and support activities;
  • preventing students from undertaking any unethical practice for any work that is going to be assessed (for example, for internal assessment, the extended essay or a TOK presentation)
  • encouraging a constructive relationship between school and families through personal interviews with parents and students during the three meetings held during the year for the delivery of report cards.

Parents are committed to:

  • understanding the school courses, respecting the rules of the school and participating in educational dialogue by collaborating with teachers;
  • supporting and monitoring their children in accordance with the school commitments;
  • being available to ensure the attendance of recovery and excellence courses;
  • informing the school of any issues that may affect the student’s efficient performance;
  • monitoring the student’s attendance and punctuality also by contacting the school to obtain further information;
  • justify the absences with a medical certificate, if required;
  • invite their own child not to use mobile phones or audiovisual or electronic devices in class. Violation of this provision will involve the temporary withdrawal of the mobile phone if used during school hours and/or the referral to the competent authorities in case the student uses devices for unauthorized publications and or otherwise damaging the image of the school and dignity of the classmates and the school staff and faculty (School Regulations);
  • intervening quickly and working with the Dean’s Office and the Class Council in case of low learning achievement and/or indiscipline;
  • being constantly informed of their child’s school and disciplinary progress by regularly consulting the reserved area on the school website;
  • participating in parent-school meetings held during the school year.

The student is committed to:

  • understanding and respecting the School Regulations;
  • understanding the VIS educational programs;
  • exercising academic honesty in all aspects of his/her work and observing the integrity of the examination room;
  • being aware of personal rights and duties;
  • acknowledging the work of others, including material taken from other sources;
  • not claiming as their own the work of others and not giving their work to others to pass off as their own.
  • behaving respectfully with the school staff and with his/her classmates, while respecting the personal and cultural diversity and others’ feelings;
  • respecting the space, the furniture and the laboratories of the school and ethically undertaking laboratory or field experiments and investigations;
  •  being on time for class;
  • switching  off mobile phones and other electronic devices during school hours (CM 15/3/2007);
  • using proper language and clothing in accordance with the educational environment in which they live and work;
  • attentively following what is taught, participating in school work in a relevant way and contributing to the classes with his/her knowledge and experience;
  • meeting the teacher’s school requirements;
  • performing  regularly assigned tasks in school and at home;
  • regularly performing tests provided by the teachers;
  • helping school-family communication;
  • not undertaking experiments involving other people without their written consent and their understanding of the nature of the experiment;
  • not undertaking experiments that inflict pain on humans or live animals or that damage the environment;
  • submitting  artworks,  performances or films that will not damage the environment; include excessive or gratuitous violence or explicit sexual activity
  • submitting presentations that respect the personal, political and spiritual values of others and contain no intention to offend in remarks about race, gender or religious beliefs.

The Dean is committed to:

  • ensuring and promoting the implementation of the School Program helping students, parents, teachers and the staff members to better express their role;
  • making sure that each school member has the opportunity to express and develop his/her potential;
  • ensuring and promoting dialogue, cooperation and respect between the different members of the school community;
  • understanding the educational needs of the students and of the community in which the school operates and  to react accordingly.
